Mark Rothko has been less visually simulating and more conceptually captivating, his work links to mine through the creation of large scale compositions to add to an extra layer of depth to the original concepts of both his and my own work.
I have decided much like Rothko that I want my work to be intimate and captivating, I want my pieces to envelop the viewer and almost make them part of my memories and experiences. This is one of the reasons I have chosen for the scale to be large enough to capture the full eyeline of viewer, this will allow each person to be fully absorbed by the complex details and subtle symbolic meanings that each composition contains.
I also resonate with the flatness and vivid colours contained within each one of Mark Rothko's paintings, although his work is completely abstract in appearance I still have gained some valuable information and forms of inspiration for my own work.
