Andy Farr is an artist that creates paintings and artwork based on a range of mental health issues such as: PTSD, Bipolar disorder, eating disorders and so on... His work initially caught my attention due to the way he portrays each emotion, memory or thought in a visual language. His work captivating and contains a range of complex details that makes each person's story come to life.
Not only did I look at Andy Farr because of his creative journey I looked at him in relation to my own project and the way I was converting memories, experiences and emotions. This was an exciting task for me to undertake as I was producing work based around some of the same themes, yet I was producing extremely different work visually. Rather than capturing the true horrors, misfortune and despair of a certain situation I would make depressing and overwhelming subject matters light-hearted, fun and playful.
Although I shared some things in common with Andy Farr's work and I also had many differences, his work allowed me to consider how I could adapt my own practice or how my future work could capture emotions and imagery in a different way. I began to realise that I could accentuate the dark nature of some of the experiences I am dealing with rather than disguise them with humour or symbolism.
Below is some annotation I have completed for my portfolio on Andy Farr's most captivating work in my opinion.
