Tonal drawing series

Writer: Kelsey TravisKelsey Travis

Originally these pieces where created as three separate drawings, yet once they had been completed they seemed too effortlessly fit together and read nicely as a series, rather than being stand alone work.

Each one of these pieces where created from imagery I have collected throughout my life and my experiences such as: travel to Orlando seen in the Disney imagery, decaying signs from my time in Blackpool as a child to church quotes and many more.

As a series these pieces signify different points within my life the first drawing with Disney imagery, which is rather playful, childlike, innocent represents my childhood and how children perceive the world around them as being something which is harmless, fun, captivating etc... Whereas the second collage drawing represents my view of the world and life at this moment, it contains quotes that have been personal within my life and my belief system, to imagery found in my nan and grandads back-garden that still fascinates me as a young adult. Ultimately this piece is mean to have childlike elements much like the first piece, yet contain deeper messages within fragmented section and this is why the text within this composition is so significant. Finally the last tonal piece signifies adulthood and the reality of life as we age, it is contains danger and how crime is significantly all around us, how things decay and die as they get older to the distortion of posters which represents how our mind can become distorted, fragmented and forgetful as we age.
