I have decided to look at a range of university open evenings, along with a range of subject areas in order to consider whether a masters course is the root I would like to go down. Once I was at Manchester Metropolitan University I attended two lecture both in design subjects as I wanted to explore a different avenue within the creative industry rather than fine art. Therefore one of the talks consisted of the subjects of craft, product design, interior design and textiles.
The first talk the lecture was interesting and enthusiastic about his subject areas and explained in great detail what each one of these courses involved. Not only did he explain the logistics of each course he gave us advice on application processes within the university, how they are looking for someone to be individual and not a replication of someone that already exists, where a masters course could ultimately lead us and he advised us to sit down and really consider why we wished to do a masters.
Whilst in this talk I gained valuable information, as I have a background in fine art it isn't always possible to progress onto certain design courses as you need fundamental and basic knowledge of a chose area. Meaning I was interested in interior design, yet through Manchester I would not be able to do this as I don't have relevant knowledge such as: building regulations, technical drawing, construction planning etc... This was disappointing to hear as it is something I have always been passionate about, therefore, if I wanted to pressure this root I would have to require the fundamentals before applying onto the masters.

Once the first talk has been completed I then attended a second talk about illustration, graphic design and direction. This lecture was less informative, I gathered an understanding between part time and full time courses and how they are structured, I also learnt that there is a process to resolving design problems which vary to what I already know within my own fine art practice.
After leaving both talks I understand that I still have a keen interest within the field of design, but I am much more of a fine artists that I have ever realised. I began to understand that I have always been interested in my own field but was reluctant to admit or see it as I was often told that my work looked more like design that fine art.
